Japan Publications Guide Service (JPGS)
Information for Publishers
What  do we do?   The simple, short, uncomplicated explanation is that JPGS collects information on publications (books and periodicals) that are published in/on Japan or East Asia in English or English plus one or more other languages. Our emphasis is on paper, Japan and recent publications, but within the limits of our time and ability, we  include internet based online publications, old  titles that are hard to find, and titles from/on all East Asian Countries ... from Russian Far East and Mongolia, to Myanmar and East Timor to the multitude of Pacific Island territories.
Hawaii, New Zealand/Australia and Bangladesh/India are outside the area of interest of JPGS. So, a book published in Australia on Sri Lanka would not be listed by JPGS, but a book published in Australia on Japanese Sumo would be listed.

What we can do for you!   We can list your title(s)  as long as they are in English (all or partly) and are published in or on Japan or East Asia.

What you will need to do to list your publications!   The fastest and best way to be listed by JPGS would be for you to send a single no-charge copy of your publication(s) to JPGS along with your publicity material and catalog. You will find our mailing address at the end of this page. An actual copy of each publication is much preferred and will generally result in a more complete listing.
We cannot return publications that you send to JPGS.
If we do not get the publication itself, we can work from catalogs, spreadsheets, online information, and third party sources.  Info supplied as a spreadsheet file or delimited text file is very welcomed especially if your list is long.

What we cannot do.   As a general rule we do not publish, sell, recommend, review, or translate publications. We have associates and friends in Japan who do all of these things and will be happy to pass on any such requests to them.

Cost for listing.   Aside from your postage expenses in sending information to JPGS, there is no charge or other cost. Basic JPGS listing is free whether you are listing one book or a thousand.

Express Listing.  In a hurry? Send complete info by email to fuyu2005[at]jpgsonline.com. We will respond within 24 hours accepting (or rejecting) your request. If accepting we will tell you how to pay (usually by PayPal). The charge is $20.00 (one book/publication), $10.00 (for 2nd item ordered at the same time), $7.00 (for 3rd, and each following ordered

Enhanced listing and advertising.   Other than Express Listing, JPGS currently does not accept enhanced listing or advertising. Please contact us if you have a proposal.

What happens to the magazines you receive for listing?   After a periodical is listed, it is usually trashed, kept, or passed on to someone who may be interested. If practical it will be passed to kk imcbook for listing and possible subscription promotion.

What happens to the books you receive for listing?   Books listed are held for display at one or two exhibitions. They may then be given away, lost, trashed, or sold to recover part of our costs.

Can you help us to sell our books?   As stated above JPGS does not sell anything.  Our associates kk imcbook do sell a wide variety of publications in and outside Japan. They can sometimes help publishers and authors. However, it is important to understand that kk imcbook is not an ultimate customer. They will only buy books for which there is a measureable market and then they will only buy the quantity they are sure they can sell. The advantage of kk imcbook is that they are often more willing to listen to small English publishers than are many of the large distributors and retailers in Japan. See website here.
